Prevention

The Prevention Department can be contacted by calling (450) 473-2730, between the hours of 9:00am until 5:00pm on Monday to Thursday and 9:00am until noon on Friday.  If the phone is not answered you can leave a message and someone from our prevention Department will get back to you as soon as possible.   In an emergency situation please call 9-1-1.

What are the requirements for installing a fireplace?

Can someone come inspect my chimney and/or my fireplace?
If you leave your address and phone number at the fire department, an inspector will visit your home. However, since only the Assistant Chief is employed fulltime and all other firefighters work on call, there may be a slight delay, especially for people who are home only evenings and weekends. Where should smoke detectors be installed?
On each floor of your house, near the bedrooms. To rememberabout checking the batteries, develop the habit of doing it twice a year, when you reset the clocks. Also, regularly use a vacuum cleaner to remove the dust from your smoke detectors.Retour à la liste des questions
 
What is a carbon monoxide detector and where should it be installed?
This device detects carbon monoxide, a colourless, odourless gas that can be fatal if inhaled. Install a carbon monoxide detector near the bedrooms. A second detector placed near the furnace or other heating equipment increases your safety.Retour à la liste des questions
 
How often should fire extinguishers be checked and refilled?

Do you collect empty propane bottles?
